I am a historian and writer focusing on the American Southwest...Although I am interested in all time periods, my history research has largely focused on the early twentieth century – that important, but often forgotten, period between the ‘wild west’ days of the nineteenth century through the end of World War Two. I particularly enjoy uncovering new stories about lesser-known people, places, or events that have been largely overlooked by previous researchers. Special topics of interest include science and technology, aviation, the Grand Canyon, mining and industry, and women’s experiences in the West. My current topic of research is the early history of Arizona's wine and liquour distilling industries from the earliest recorded efforts to the 1990s. Aside from giving public presentations, I am a regular contributor to the Journal of Arizona History and have also written for Arizona Highways, Sedona Magazine, and other history and popular magazines, journals, and books. I was a past president of the Grand Canyon Historical Society and am a member of the Scottsdale Corral of Westerners International. I am a public speaker with Arizona Humanities’ Arizona Speaks program and several of my presentations can be scheduled through them. When I am not writing or researching history, I work as a software engineer for Intel Corporation. I also enjoy travel, hiking, photography, reading, and pizza (especially pizza). As a hobby, I collect microbrewery pint glasses and dust (especially dust).
